Originally known as Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn stage named as Future is a rapper and singer. Future was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia on November 20, 1983. He started performing on stage as a member of the musical collective The Dungeon Family with his name “The Future”.
An encouragement by his cousin made him sharpen his writing skills and become a rapper. He later worked with Atlanta’s Rocko under the label A1-recordings. A series of mixtapes including 1000, Dirty Sprite and True Story were released in 2010-11. He has collaborated with a fellow rapper Gucci Mane in the album Free Bricks and also wrote YC’s single “Racks” along with Mane. He next performed the mixtape, Streetz Calling. This tape received reviews from XXL magazine as “tales of the grind” and Pitchfork “as close as anyone to perfecting this thread of ringtone pop”.
He made another mixtape “Astronaut Status” which was released in 2012 before his studio debut. This album helped him enter the annual XXL Freshmen list in early 2012.
His debut album “Pluto” was released in April 2012. This album had remixes of “Tony Montana” and “Magic”. The track “Magic” was his first single entry to Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the same year in October, his album “Pain” was released. He also wrote, produced and appeared in the song “Loveeeeee Song”.
In 2013, his mixtape F.B.G was released which was platinum certified as it had 250,000 downloads on the mixtape site DatPiff. His second studio album was Future Hendrix which was released in the same year.
Future along with Canadian rapper Drake, released a mixtape in September 2015 – What a time to be alive. This album debuted at number one on Billboard charts and 350,000 copies were sold in the U.S. Thus, Future made two number one albums in 11 years (Jay-Z and what a time to be alive). In 2016, he released his album “Purple Reign”. He later premiered in his 4th studio album “We the Best”. He thus became the fastest artist with 3 number one albums – Jayz, What a time to be alive, and we the best. He also appeared in a Rolling Stone issue in June 2016.
