T- Boz was born on April 26, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born to James Watkins and Gayle Watkins. T-Boz was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia when she was a child. She has been hospitalised on several occasions for her condition. She lived in Des Moines until she turned nine when she moved to Atlanta.
T-Boz came public about her illness 1996. She became the spokesperson for Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. She is a Christian and has often said that her faith in God and her positivity has helped her through her illness.
