Dante Terrel Smith aka Yasiin Bey was born on December 11, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York City. His parents were Abdul Rahman and Sheron Smith. He was raised by his and was the eldest of 12 children and step-children. His father used to live in New Jersey and followed Imam Warith Deen Mohammed.
Mos was not exposed to Islam until age 13. Athe age of 14, he was seen in the movie ‘God Bless the Child’. When he was 19, he used to take Shahada (a declaration of faith taken by Muslims). He became close friends with Muslim rappers Kamaal Ibn John Fareed and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.
