Sudan Ameer Williams, professionally known as Iamsu, was born on 16 November 1989, in Richmond, California. His family later moved to Pinole. He started making music at an early age of fourteen. During his high school, he began learning about how one can make beats on the computer. He is now a well-known American rapper, songwriter, singer, and record producer and is also known as the following names: Suzy, 6 speed, Su, and Sudo Mane.
Education: Iamsu has graduated from Pinole Valley High School in the year 2007. After graduating, he completed his further higher studies in communication from the Cal State East Bay college. After getting recognition, he continued his studies, moving to the online classes. He then went back to in-class during his final year.
Career: At a very young age, Iamsu used to listen to artists such as Aaliyah, R. Kelly, Kanye West, Marching Band, The Grammar Band and the Reggae music. He first acquired attention as a producer. He has produced and featured many artists such as Kehlani Ashley Parrish, Tinashe, Hit-Boy, Sage the Gemini, Wiz Khalifa, Tauheed Epps, Lil B, DJ Mustard, G-Eazy, Casey Veggies, and the HBK Gang. On 2nd October 2012, Iamsu! released his former mixtapes titled “Young California”, “Su! The Right Thing”, and “Kilt” on iTunes for sale. He then released his another Mixtape, titled “$uzy 6 Speed” on November 12, 2012. The mixtape features guest appearances from Problem, Terius Gray (Juvenile) and Wiz Khalifa.
On 13 February 2013, Iamsu! along with Problem had released “Million Dollar Afro”, a collaboration Mixtape. The mixtape was praised by Tom Breihan of Stereogum(a news site) and Spin(an American magazine) and was named as one of the best rap releases of 2013. It also features guest appearances from King L, Too Short, Juvenile, Bad Lucc, Omarion, Wiz Khalifa, Short Dawg and among others.
In promotion of his Mixtape “Kilt II”, Iamsu! began a headlining tour in May 2013. It was his first headlining tour. The Mixtape was released on 6 June that year. It was released as a retail Mixtape and that too for free to iTunes on 9 July. The promotion of the Mixtape was basically handled by Iamsu! himself along with the members of “The Invasion”. The Pitchfork Media gave it a 7.5 rating out of 10. After its release, it was claimed by him that he was working with 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa on their upcoming album of 2013. The albums were “B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time” and “Blacc Hollywood”.
He also featured on a hit single “Gas Pedal” in 2013. The song reached at number 29 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It is the most successful single till date. On 12 August 2013, he released a compilation Mixtape “Gang Forever”, along with his group HBK Gang. On 3rd December he released the second single from “Kilt II”, the “Hipster Girls”. On 3 January 2014, Iamsu! released a remix to “Who Do You Love”. It was then when he was hinted at being setting up to release his debut album.
On 28 January 2014, Iamsu! released a single, titled “Only That Real”. He also released his debut album titled “Sincerely Yours” on April 2014. After the release of his debut album he again released a collaboration album titled Million Dollar Afro 2 with Problem. In 2015, he began traveling worldwide to publicize his second studio album, ‘KILT 3’ which was released on 24 March 2016. Recently in 2017, Iamsu has released his new Mixtape titled “Boss up” featuring E-40, YMTK, Show Banga and Mansa.
