Phillip Dennis Ivey Jr. popularly was born on February 1, 1977, in Riverside California. He was born to parents Pamela Ivey and Phil Ivey Sr. When he was three months old, Ivey’s family moved to Roselle in New Jersey. At 8 years, his grandfather taught him to play poker. While growing up, he used to enter casinos in New Jersey and Atlantic City to play real poker. In the late 1990s, he used to work at a telemarketing firm in New Jersey. There he used to play poker with his c-workers. He used to secure ID cards to play poker. In his id card, one of his nicknames was “No Home Jerome”. By winning the 2002 WSOP (World Series of Poker) bracelets, he was given the nickname “The Phenom”. He is also sometimes referred as the “the Tiger Woods of Poker”.
