Patoranking is the stage name of Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie who is a Nigerian reggae-dancehall artist and musician brought up in Ijegun-Egba, Lagos State Nigeria. He kickstarter his music career with collaborations with several other popular musicians like XProject, Konga and Reggie Rockstone. He was also part of the record label, Igberaga Records which was actually K-Solo’s company.
He joined the record label in the year 2010. After teaming up with Timaya on a medley titled ‘Alubarika’, Patoranking turned into a protégé of Dem Mama Records. By 2014, he had moved on to other record producers and managers and his single “Girlie O” was released in February of 2014 under the record label Foston Musik. Girlie O was the song that put Patoranking into the actual spotlight. On 9 February 2015, Patoranking Informed his fans that he would be joining VP records through Instagram.
Patoranking was born on 27 May 1990 to Mr. & Mrs. Okorie. He was raised in the satellite town of Ijegun Egba and the family later moved to Ebute Metta. He went to Citizen Comprehensive College Epe and later moved to Jibril Martin Memorial Grammar School in Iponri. Patoranking began his career as a performing artist with street performances. In an interview with Entertainment Express in the year 2012, he revealed that he was given his stage name by a fellow street performer whom he met at Alpha beach in Lagos.
Career: In May 2012, Patoranking released a single titled “Iya Bisi” featuring Qdot and Kaj. This song was one of the firsts to be produced by Drumphase with his unique sty;e of dancehall and Fuji. Patoranking told Entertainment Express in the same interview that Qdot and Kaj had given him inspiration for the song.
On 12 September 2013, Patoranking released the music video for “Alubarika”. The phrase translates to “God’s Blessings” and features Tamiya as well. The music video for “Alubarika”, which was shot by AJE Films, had a running time of 4 minutes and 16 seconds. In February 2014, Patoranking moved to Foston Musik after deciding to quit Dem Mama Records. On 4 February 2014, Patoranking released his super hit single “Girlie O”, which was produced by Wizzy Pro. The music video for the single was shot and coordinated in London by Moe Musa. The music video was released a day after the official release on 5 February 2014.
Foston Musik also released a remix of “Girlie O” on 19 May 2014 which also became hugely popular. The remix features vocals from Tiwa Savage. It peaked at number 9 on MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 billboards. Tiwa Savage revealed in an interview that she had contacted Patoranking directly to produce a remix of Girlie O and the remix video was also shot by Moe Musa in London itself.
Patoranking also featured on Seyi Shay’s “Murda” single. The tune was created by Dokta Frabz and released to the public on 1 April 2014. On 11 May 2014, the music video for “Murda” was released under the label of Vevo and was coordinated by Meji Alabi for JM Films.
2015 was a big year for Patoranking with two of his singles topping the MTV Top 10 Charts. The tracks were titled, “Daniella Whine” and “My Woman, My Everything” with the latter peaking at number 2.
