Herb Alpert is an American iconic musician, songwriter and trumpet player. Alpert was one of the leading member of musical group variously known as ‘Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass’, ‘Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass’ or ‘TJB’. Alpert is also known for creating abstract paintings and sculptures. His five musical albums became No. 1 on the ‘Billboard’. As vocalist and instrumentalist, Alpert is the only recording artist to hit No. 1 on the U.S. ‘Billboard Hot 100’ chart.
Herb Alpert was born on March 31, 1935 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Alpert was born to emigrant Jewish parents Tillie and Louis Alpert. His father was tailor by profession and was a talented mandolin player, his mother taught violin at a young age. Being from musical family, Alpert started to learn trumpet at the age of eight. Alpert attended the ‘Fairfax High School’. In 1952, Alpert joined US Military. Alpert was a member of the ‘USC Trojan Marching Band’ while attending the ‘University of Southern California’. In 1957, Alpert worked as a songwriter for ‘Keen Records’ with Rob Weerts. The songs written and co-written by Alpert became major hits which include ‘Baby Talk’ and ‘Wonderful’.
