Who is Black Coffee and what is his net worth 2019? Black Coffee was born on 11 March 1976 in Durban, South Africa before his family moved to Mthatha, Eastern Cape. His birth name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo and he is the top electronic music producer in Africa and also a DJ. Since starting his career in 1995, he has come out with five albums. He has also released a live DVD for his Johannesburg label, Soulistic Music. His music career took a jump after he got chosen as a participant in the Red Bull Music Academy in 2004 in Cape Town.


Black Coffee hit the music scene with a bang in 2005 with “Stimela”, a remix of the 1972 hit by Hugh Masekela. In the same year he released his debut album titled on his own name “Black Coffee” under Soulistic Music. The album won the award for the best urban dance album at the MTN SAMA awards in 2006. He was also included in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010 for DJing 60 hours non-stop in Maponya Mall. Hit releases were continuously pouring out from the artists of Soulistic Music in 2011 and in the same year “Africa Rising” was launched with a huge concert at the Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The footage from the concert was used in the song’s video. “Africa Rising” sold a large number of copies in a very short span of time in 2012 and also won the award for the ‘best dance album’ at the South African Music Awards held in 2013. A new club DJ named DJ Shimza was signed by Soulistic Music and Back Coffee featured more artists in “Africa Rising”.

Black Coffee was seen on many stages around the world in 2013. From Panorama Bar to Southport Weekender to Boiler Room and other music meets such as RBMA and ADE, Black Coffee was busy throughout the year juggling between these events. He also entered into a fruitful tie-up with Black Motion and Mi Casa.

In the same year he graced the Destiny Man Magazine and a few other publications. Black Coffee started his world tour from Ciroloco, Blue Parrot, Mexico on 12 January 2015 and ended it at Ciroloco at DC-10 on 31 August 2015. Black Coffee decided to go back to his country to launch his fifth album titled “Pieces of Me”. The album featured many artists and achieved platinum sales in South Africa by the end of 2015.

He was also named the breakthrough DJ of the year at the 2015 DJ Awards held in Spain. He was a prime performer at the ‘Ultra Music Festival’ and ‘Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’ in 2016. Education: Black Coffee graduated as a major in Jazz Studies from the reputed Technikon Natal and worked as a backup singer for Mandala Kunene with his schoolmates at that time.
