His birth name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo and he is the top electronic music producer in Africa and also a DJ. Since starting his career in 1995, he has come out with five albums. He has also released a live DVD for his Johannesburg label, Soulistic Music. His music career took a jump after he got chosen as a participant in the Red Bull Music Academy in 2004 in Cape Town.

A new club DJ named DJ Shimza was signed by Soulistic Music and Back Coffee featured more artists in “Africa Rising”.
Black Coffee was seen on many stages around the world in 2013. From Panorama Bar to Southport Weekender to Boiler Room and other music meets such as RBMA and ADE, Black Coffee was busy throughout the year juggling between these events. He also entered into a fruitful tie-up with Black Motion and Mi Casa.
In the same year he graced the Destiny Man Magazine and a few other publications. Black Coffee started his world tour from Ciroloco, Blue Parrot, Mexico on 12 January 2015 and ended it at Ciroloco at DC-10 on 31 August 2015. Black Coffee decided to go back to his country to launch his fifth album titled “Pieces of Me”. The album featured many artists and achieved platinum sales in South Africa by the end of 2015.
