Samuel Michael “Sam” Simon was an American director, writer, and producer. He was the co-developer of the popular television series titled “The Simpsons”. He died of Colorectal cancer in 2015. He was 59 years old.
Sam Simon was born on June 6, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, United States. he was raised in Beverly Hills and Malibu. His father was a clothing dealer. He attended Beverly Hills High School. He was a cartoonist for the school. He graduated from Stanford University in 1977. Sam Simon majored in Psychology.
Sam Simon married actress Jennifer Tilly in 1984. The couple divorced in 1991. He was married to Playboy Playmate Jami Ferrell in 2000 but the marriage lasted for only three weeks. He also created, wrote and produced “Shaping Up” in 1984. He also wrote “Best of the West” in 1981, “Barney Miller” in 1982, “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” from 1987 to 1988 and “The Super” in 1991.
In 1989, he co-developed the animated series, “The Simpsons”. He was considered the one who developed the show’s credibility. In 1994, Sam Simon teamed up with comedian George Caitlin to create “The George Caitlin Show”. Sam Simon also directed some movies and shows including “Men Behaving Badly”, some episodes of “Friends”, “The Norm Show”, and “The Michael Richards Show”.
Simon retired from full-time television but still did some consulting and directing for the “Anger Management” series.
