Chad Johnson was born on January 9, 1978 in Miami, Florida. He legally transformed his surname to Ochocinco in August of 2008. In January 2011, he said that he was going back to Johnson. As a kid, Chad developed a healthy diet for sports—but he was not interested in schoolwork and possessed zero focus spans and about no impulse control.
Football was the unconventional for Chad, and he knew it. Two of Chad’s cousins, future NFL stars Keyshawn Johnson and Samari Rolle, proved him it could be done. Once Chad set his aim at an NFL career, there was no one to stopping him. And there was no another Plan B.
On many afternoons, Chad could be found at a nearest ground playing pickup games with Samari and Duane Starks and Terry Cousin, both of whom would also go on to NFL careers. Chad also managed snaps on extra points. His grandfather presented in every game.
Making it to class was another problem. Chad did not see a link in the middle of success on the field and even a minimum academic effort. He continuously cut classes and was daily behind in his schoolwork. It didn’t help that many of his school teachers allow him a pass. As so frequently happens with young players, the support they thought they were doing for him would later turn out to be an imprecation.
While it appeared he was on the right way, Chad took another huge step backward when he came up a credit short and had to lose the 1998 season. At a low point, he began to think that the stars were aligned in the opposition of him. Once again, Bessie interfered. She told Chad to get his marks back in form and play football for Santa Monica again in 1999. Ultimately, he was beginning to understand the link between school and football.
Chad’s is a son of a father named Sam, but he didn’t know his dad at all. His mother named Paula Johnson was not a steady figure in his life either. For most of his babyhood, he was brought up by his Paula’s parents, Bessie and James Flowers. Paula stayed a few blocks away but was in no position to take care of the boy. He called Bessie with the name of “Mama” and still does today. Another boy he played with was Sam Brown Jr. Chad didn’t know it at the time, but he and Sam were half-brothers. He later found that he had a half-sister, Chinita.
