Separamadu Lasith Malinga , popularly known as Lasith Malinga was born on the 28th of August in the year 1983. Malinga grew up in modest circumstances in Rathgama, a coastal village situated 12 km northwest of Galle. He did his education at three schools, namely Mahinda College, Galle, Vidyaloka College, Galle and Vidyathilake Vidyalaya, Thiranagama. He was the Twenty20 World Cup winning captain for Sri Lanka.
Malinga is a specialist fast bowler who got noticed at first for his unique round-arm action. He is sometimes called by his nickname “SLINGA” which came due to his unique sling throwing bowling action. He is notorious for having both deadly quick and very slow toe crushing yorkers which has been very productive and allows him to take wickets on a regular basis. He is an ace bowler when it comes to bowling yorkers and he can produce them on will and is very famous for being consistent in taking wickets at regular intervals.
He is the highest wicket taker of all time in Twenty20 cricket and also is the highest wicket taker for Sri Lanka in Twenty20 Internationals. Malinga is the only bowler in the history of cricket to take four wickets in four consecutive balls in international cricket ( vs. South Africa in March 2007 where he took two wickets of the last two balls of an over and the next two came in the first two balls of his very next over ). He is the first and only bowler to have taken three hat-tricks in One Day International cricket.
Lasith Malinga along with Angelo Mathews holds the highest partnership for the 9th wicket in an ODI, scoring 132 runs which was against the mighty Australian team and that too in Melbourne. Malinga scored 56 Runs from 48 balls, which included six fours and two sixes. He has also scalped two World Cup hat tricks, the first one against South Africa in the 2007 Cricket World Cup and the otherhat-trick was against Kenya in the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
As of February 2017, Lasith Malinga, with 304 wickets in 224 games is the second highest wicket-taker in all Twenty20 matches. Lasith Malinga now holds highest number of wickets ( 143 ) in Indian Premier League. As of 19 January, 2017, Malinga still holds the best figures in BBL history with 6/7.
