South African all rounder Albie Morkel was born in Vereeniging, Transvaal Province, South Africa on 10th June 1981. Born in an Afrikaner family of die-hard cricket fans, it comes as no surprise that Albie went on to become a cricketer. As a matter of fact, the trio of Morkel brothers is cricketers with his youngest brother Morne also representing the Proteas in international cricket.
Albie Morkel heralded in the international arena riding on his robust first class cricket record and was regarded as the successor of Lance Klusener for all rounder’s role. He made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2004, his test debut which incidentally is also his solitary test match was against Australia way back in 2005.
