Briggs won the coveted Lineal Heavyweight title.
Lennox Lewis, the WBC champion fought next with Briggs for the WBC title. Lennox knocked out Briggs in the fifth round but Briggs got up but later collapsed after a missed left hook from Lewis. The referee gave Lennox the victory by technical knockout.
