Japanese manga artist, Tite Kubo, is most popularly known for his popular manga series creation, Bleach. He has drawn influences from different manga such as Shigeru Mizuki’s Gegege no Kitaro, Masami Kurumada’s Saint Seiya and Akira Toriyami’s Dragon Ball. Kubo has also written several one-shot manga and long running series in addition to a few artbooks. He has an estimated net worth of $55 million.
Kubo was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan on June 26, 1977. When he was in elementary school, he read the manga Saint Seiya. This is when he decided to become a full time manga artist.
Kubo has written two serialised manga series, both of them in the shonen genre with a primary focus on action sequences. His designs contain major body horror elements. He is married since 2012.
Kubo’s first shot at manga was when he wrote the one shot, Ultra Unholy Hearted Machine for 1996’s Weekly Shone Jump. He has also written other one shot manga such as Rune Master Urara and Bad Shield United for the magazine. The latter then published his first manga, Zombiepowder in 1999. Zombie powder was cancelled in 2000 after running 27 chapters.
The magazine then ran his next manga, Bleach in 2001. This manga ran from 20001 until 2016 with over 686 chapters. In addition to this, the series had an anime adaptation that was broadcast on TV Tokyo from 2004 to 2012. This adaptation ran for 366 episodes. Bleach won 2004’s Shogakukan Manga Award.
Kubo has also co-authored two Bleach series novelisations with author Makoto Matsubara. These two novelisations were published under Shueisha’s label, Jump Books.
Kubo’s manga Bleach was turned into 4 different movies, in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 respectively. He also made an appearance in an episode of Bleach B-station, a Japanese radio program. He answered several questions from fans in the program besides being interviewed by Masakazu Morita, who was the voice actor for the lead role of Ichigo Kurosaki.
Tite Kubo has also appeared in the San Diego Comic Con International in 2008.
Besides his own works, Kubo has also given character designs for the Aoi Bungaku series, Ango Sakaguchi’s Sakura no Mori no Mankai no Shita, Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s Hell Screen and The Spider’s Thread.
