Larry Hagman was born on 21st September, 1931 in Fort Worth, Texas. Mary Martin, his mother was a Broadway actress. She was also a star under musical comedy. Benjamin Jackson Hagman, his father, was a lawyer and an accountant who worked as a D.A (district attorney).
Hagman’s parents took a decision to divorce in 1936, when he was just five years of age. Larry then lived with his maternal grandmother and during this time his mother worked as a contract player with the Paramount. He was drawn to drama even though his father wanted him to follow his dreams of becoming a lawyer.
In 1940 he decided to become an actor. He did many Broadway shows and television series. In 1954, he tied the knot with Maj Axelsson. They had two children Heidi and Preston. Maj was detected with Alzheimer’s disease in 2008 and her health deteriorated in 2010. She died in 2016.
In 1950, he started his acting career under the productions department in Margaret Webster’s school, New York. He soon got a role in the Taming of the Shrew in New York. This was followed by numerous musical tent shows in Lambertville, New Jersey and St Petersburg, Florida. Larry then got a role in South Pacific, a London Production, in 1951. In 1952, during the Korean War period, Hagman was signed up in the US Air Force.
