Kamal Haasan was introduced to most of us 90’s kids through the 1997 blockbuster ‘Chachi 420’. Playing the role of a man who takes the disguise of a quirky middle aged woman to be with his daughter, Hassan laughed his way into our hearts. However, his journey began 43 years ago in 1954 when he was born into a humble Tamil family in Madras-present day Tamil Nadu. He was named Parthasarthy at birth by his father D. Srinivasan, a criminal lawyer by profession and his housewife mother Rajalakshmi.
He was the youngest of 4 children. Both of his elder brothers, Charuhasan and Chandrahasan followed in their father’s footsteps and became lawyers. His sister Nalini is a renowned classical dancer. From a very young age Haasan was fascinated with art-a passion his father encouraged. Perhaps, it was this unwavering ardour for the fine arts which led him to the enigmatic sphere of filmdom at a tender age of 4. He has never looked back ever since and today at the age of 62, he is a much celebrated actor of Tamil and Hindi cinema.
Kamal Haasan has been married twice. At the age of 24 he was smitten by Vani Ganapathy, a prominent dancer, and married her. However, 10 years later the marriage ended in divorce. He then fell in love with national award winning ‘Parzania’ actress Sarika whom he married after the birth of their first child. The couple has two daughters singer-actress Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan who has worked as an assistant director in her father’s 2013 controversial film ‘Vishwaroopam’. Haasan and Sarika got a divorce in 2004.
Hassan received his primary education in his birth town of Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district of Madras. Later he joined his brothers in Santhome, Madras where he went on to pursue his higher education.
